What a mess...
The English Language Unit has it pretty tough compared to the rest of the university. The working conditions are grim; not just because of the heat and lack of air-con, but also due to not even having the basic requirements for a decent classroom (desks, new whiteboards, projectors). The president promises 'buukra Inshallah' (tomorrow, if God wills) each time he is pestered, before promptly doing sweet-fuck-all about it, leaving me with a frustratingly low opinion of the man. Apparently, this is the Egyptian way. It's no fucking wonder this country is such a shit-tip.
Trying to keep everyone happy and upbeat is becoming increasingly difficult, and to make matters a hundred times worse, Lyndsey had her laptop stolen from the staff room whilst we were all in lessons this morning. Lyndsey is one of the loveliest most sweet-natured teachers I've had the pleasure of working with, which makes it all the worse. To say she was upset today would be an understatement. I hope she doesn't make good on her threat to not come back.
I also hope the thieving little fuck who stole her computer is found quickly. I'd like a word or two.
(This is Lyndsey's desk, which is a bit of a state at the best of times.)
