Millmount

Millmount in Drogheda is on the highest point in the south of the town. Reportedly built on a large neolithic tomb contemporary with the site at Newgrange, the Millmount was constructed by the British in the 1800s when they garrisoned the town.
The fortification was bombarded during the Irish Civil War 1920-22 and suffered some damage. This was recently repaired and the building is now open for visits and also has an interesting museum in the grounds.
