The last booth standing.

This relic from the past has always intrigued me. It's been here for at least 30 years that I know of and likely longer than that. But why is it still around? It's near a small park in a wealthy area. I've never seen it in use and, as one can see, it's barely maintained. Note the Pacific Bell logo. That company name disappeared about a decade ago when it was bought by SBC. And later SBC rebranded itself as AT&T.
I wonder if AT&T has simply forgotten about this booth (it still works). It may be an orphan
