April showers in NYC

More like torrential rain!

The other day it was beautiful and warm and we were sunbathing in Central Park. Yesterday the rain was funny and novel and pretty hitting the lit streets. Today it's grey and cold and relentless!

But it's still New York, so not so bad ;o)

We spent most of today wandering through downtown areas. Started off at Grand Central Terminal (Ooooooh, ahhhhhh....so pretty!) and sussed out the subway, then took it down to the East Village. Unfortunately we were there a bit early and it doesn't seem to wake up until noon so the places we'd planned to visit were still closed. However the little streets and buildings were really nice and we did come across the most wonderful 'Shakespeare and Co.' bookshop. Oh I love it! I'm very very very skint now....but I just had to get something, it would have been rude not to... *cough*

From there went through Little Tokyo, Little Ukraine ...some other little places... Noho (North of Houston St), Nolita (North of Little Italy) and Soho (South of Houston). New Yorkers really love their abbreviations! We were even briefly in Tribeca (Triangle Below Canal St). It was too wet to explore properly today though and we decided to leave Greenwich Village, Little Italy and Chinatown for a nicer day when we can happily wander through streets and parks instead of wetly huddling in shops and cafes!

The rubbish weather may make sightseeing a wee bit of a trial but is a great excuse for an easy evening of tv and early night in our nice, warm, dry hotel room! It's all good :O)
