Moorhen and Chick

This shot only shows one of the eight chicks that this hen produced this season, but I think it shows the chick in quite good detail.

The Moorhen averages approx 33cm from beak tip to toe. It is a ground dwelling bird and extemely territorial in the breeding season. It lives off water plants, seeds, fruit, grasses, insects, snails and worms.
