War on the Eastern Front
I got to Dunbar (East Lothian) this morning just as the clouds were rolling in. I was planned to lead an All-Age worship service at 11am, and hoped that this was not an omen for how the rest of the morning might go!
It is always a pleasure to prepare for a Sunday morning church service with such a wide range of ages. You need to be cultural and direct for the young folk. There needs to be a sub-text that the adults can chew on. And a brief indulgence in tradition doesn't go amiss for those who are steeped in it... But the key is getting people interested in the bits which "aren't for them".
The cloud front didn't develop into a storm, but disperesed into a mottled sky.
Good "All-age" worship shouldn't be a fight between different eras but a mixing of them all: A celebration of the fact that they all exist in the present, and that is a lot of what makes the present good.
