Tis Autumn

Just walked back through the Botanics again, and really did not feel like taking photographs, as I have just had 4 fillings and my face is still totally numb.

We had a steady downpour here in Glasgow last night, and it reminded me of a time many years ago, when I was in the part-time Police (or of course Polis as you say in these yer parts) Force. There I was, wearing brand new Wellington Boots, knee deep in flood water, diverting traffic from the local bypass on to the local lanes in Somerset.

After 2 hours of constant hand waving and gesticulations, it was time to
go back to the "nick" for a break. My partner said to me "look at your boots" - and they were cerainly a sorry sight. The whole outer skins were just peeling off, rather like when a snake sheds its' skin.

So, the next day I took them back to the shop and said to the girl. "can I have an exchange please?" She looked at me, and uttered the classic line "Sorry sir, we cannot do that - you have been wearing them in the water." My protests fell on deaf ears as she continued " And sir - it looks like it was not normal water -it must have been acid of some kind."

So - the moral of the story is - never redirect traffic whilst acid rain falleth from above !

The Manager was called, and of course he did see sense, and actually offered me a partial refund.

Therefore if you see a wizened old man walking down Argyle Street with only one Wellington boot - then it is I - give me a wave someone !
