I often admire a tree in the park that doesn't seem to have a trunk and branches, it sort of has two trunks, in a V-shape, which flatten out to become branches... that sounds a bit complicated, I'll have to blip it some day! Anyway, this morning as I was walking past I noticed a little head poking out of the trunk/branch quickly followed by the rest of a great tit! I'll admire the tree more now I know that it has a little home inside.
I watched for a while as Mr and Mrs Great Tit flew back and forth with food for the little ones that must be inside. Their food of choice at the minute seems to be the daddy long legs (or what we call daddy long legs anyway - crane flies - I've noticed people on here calling some kind of spider by that name too).
From the markings I think this is mummy Great Tit with a feed for her babies, birds really do seem to be great parents :)
PS: 25 today! Didn't feel any older when I woke up, then had a 3 hour meeting and aged about 10 years! After that I got to relax a bit by having lunch with my parents, who came up to Belfast specially to see me, and then a walk in the park. Back to work now but I think I'll be chilling out tonight, then to the pub with friends for a few drinks after work tomorrow. I had my proper party a couple of weeks ago, I like my birthday celebrations to last all month :)
