Papango
Probably like you, I didn't know Papango was the Maori name for the New Zealand scaup, a very distinctive duck of the diving duck species.
They are beautiful birds and quite unlike the "common duck" that I blipped yesterday, both in look an nature. They are fascinating to watch in clear water as they dive down (to depths of 2 - 3 metres) and fossick on the river and lake bottom for food.
