Scaup New Zealand diving duck Christchurch

Scaup - diving duck having a good scratch! loved the look in it's eye and the intensity with which it was scratching.

This is New Zealand's only diving duck although there are a few in the Northern Hemisphere e.g. bufflehead, tufted duck, golden eye.

This is a male - because of the yellow eye and the dark colouring - females are brown with brown eyes.
