Bend an ear?

Sooooooooo exhausted today. Too many deadlines all piling up at once. Took lots of photomicrographs today. This one made me very happy.

It is elastic cartilage. The black fibers are the elastic fibers and the little "lakes" you see are lacunae (lacuna=lake), which house chondrocytes (cartilage cells) inside. This type of cartilage is found many places in the body, such as your ear lobe. It provides strong, but flexible support.
