New view
Ironically, I spent most of my day today editing skull photos for final submission to the publisher. I wasn't completely happy with some of them, but when I compared them to the competition - I thought they were awesome. :-) I say, "ironically" because the only photos I actually took today were of a little bit of drama that took place outside my (new) office window.
This afternoon, just after I returned to my office from an hour in the anatomy lab with students, the sound of a helicopter filled the air. When I looked out my window, I saw an ambulance on the center field of campus, where graduation had just occurred a week earlier (you can still see the brown where the graduation tent did a number on the grass). The helicopter was a life flight helicopter, and the "drama" that ensued was the transfer of a patient from the ambulance to the helicopter. I love helicopters. Thus, I was in awe watching it land, and then subsequently take off again. That said, I was also sad to see that a patient had to be life flighted out of our little town to save his/her life. :-(
Apparently there was a car accident on the Caldwell hill, which is a very steep hill just East of our little town. This area is so hilly and full of trees that there are few places for a helicopter to land. In the one year since I've been here, I believe it's the second time a patient has been life-flighted from the campus grounds.
My emotions/thoughts today? What a great view I have from my new office - love the light! Why is it raining today, the day I was going to ride my bicycle after work? How fun to be in the laboratory teaching anatomy again! Ugh - I wish I could redo this photo and get a better one. Wow - this photo will make the book stand out against the competition! Cool - a helicopter! Oh no, someone is very seriously hurt . . . Wow - look at the helicopter take off! Etc., etc., etc.
Overall? I'm so glad my life isn't boring - and I am very glad I have found such a wonderful new home in this little town in West Virginia.
