Suzhou Street

In Beijing, we went to visit the Summer Palace which was used as a retreat for the Dynasties during the hot summer months, when they escaped the confines of the Forbidden City in the city centre.

It was really a beautiful place, full of loads of nooks and crannies, different styles and coloured temples, windy passageways, gardens and of course Kunming Lake which takes up about 2/3rds of the whole Palace area.

This Blip is from one part of the Summer Palace called 'Suzhou Street'. Suzhou is a city located about 80km from Shanghai and is widely recognised as 'Venice of the East' for its old canals. Suzhou Street in the Summer Palace is a mini replica of the nicest parts of Suzhou city itself and it's very pretty indeed :)

We also visited the actual city of Suzhou later on in our trip, once we were back in Shanghai. See following Blips!
