The park

Spence and I went into Warragul this morning after breakfast. It was initially to do some grocery shopping but before we left Spence said 'go to the park?'! So we did! There is a new adventure playground in Warragul so we went there. The weather was quite nice today, nice blue sky, still a bit cold, but not too windy.

Spence and I ran around the playground and climbed on the equipment for a while, then a group of five kids came to the park. Their ages were about 12, 10, 7, 3 and 2 (at a guess). They didn't have an adult with them and were 'a bit rough'! The 7 year old immediately picked up two sticks and started swinging them around and hitting bits of the equipment with them, then he and the 12 year old picked up some rocks and started smashing them against other rocks that were cemented into a path to look like the bottom of a river. They were trying to get the rocks out of the ground. The 2 year old picked up bark and started throwing it around. Spence had seen him doing that so he went over and threw some as well. I explained to him that the bark was there for a reason and he should leave it where it was.

It made me think about how important it is to teach your kids the 'right' way to behave from such a young age. Or not even teaching them, since they copy everything they see, if we respect people and property then surely the kids will pick up on that. My parents taught me and my siblings to be polite and respectful to others and I think it's really important. I'm sure Spence will pick up on the nice way Kaz and I treat each other as well as everyone else. We are lucky we have a similar philosophy on life and bringing up children and we have a lot of time to spend with Spence.

While Spence was asleep this afternoon I brought up his play tents with their connecting tunnel and another box of toys from the garage. I set the tents and tunnel up in the lounge room and put the box of toys in the play room! While I was down in the garage I gave it a tidy up which it really needed!

Spence woke up chatting at about 4.30 so I went in there and got him up. I got him into his clothes then told him I had a surprise for him, put him down on the ground and ran off saying he to find me! I ran into the lounge and sat in one of the tents! Spence came running in and found me in the tent and was really excited! We went and looked through the new box of toys I had brought up and he found a stuffed cow that he loves. We spent the next hour playing in the tents with cow and dolly! We even had a picnic in there (apple and water)!!

Tomorrow we are going to Robyn's house again but this time Kaz can come! Jessie and Kurt are staying at their Grandparent's (Joe and Bev) house next door tonight, so we are going to pick them up and take them home when we go in the morning! Spence will be so excited to see them and also because they are coming in our car with him!! Robyn is making a vegetable quiche for lunch then we are having other friends over to our house for dinner! Should be a great day!

This is Spence on the play equipment today at the park. He was climbing down the steps and I was trying to get him to stop where he was to take his photo! He kept on coming, giggling all the way because he knew I wanted him to stop and he didn't want to!! He finished climbing down then I ran after him telling him to stop so I could take his photo and he was laughing and running away!
