Breakey Blips

old Jarrah cattle ramp

Jarrah is a great wood.
It is so hard that when you drill into it, the bit burns the wood rather than make a hole. When it is freshly cut, it is blood red, but weathers to this silver colour. It is fairly resistant to pests, and the fortunes of this state of Western Australia were originally based on the jarrah timber trade for railway sleepers, etc to the rest of the world.
We consider it to be the wood of choice for our heater, as it burns away to no ash, but it feels like a terrible waste of a wonderful resource.
