heirloom onion

Gift from our neighbor who is 80+ years young and can run circles around most folks half his age. He said the original plant, imported from Tennessee, is over 3 generations old, which is something 'cause he comes from a hearty genetic family line who live to be at least in their upper 80's.

This type of onion grows its new sets from the top of the stalk and are quite spicy in flavor.

I did a bit of weeding and hand watering then went to the gem/bead/jewelry show with my favorite sis and had a great time as always. Bought some stone pendants, a Hello Kitty coin purse to replace my ragged one, and a amethyst colored beaded necklace and earring set - like I don't have enough jewelry.

Came home and cleaned out all the spent poppies - quite a chore. Garden looking neater, and the day lilies are starting to bloom. But there are now some bare and low color spots. Where are all my marigolds? I literally spread thousands of seeds from last years crop. Yes, an excuse to go to the big box store to search out clearance plants to rescue. It is a dicey proposition - often these purchases fail but I noticed a coreopsis I bought last year has sprung back quite nicely.
