The medal man
Today we went to Truro, Cornwall's only city.
It was a glorious day (unusual in the British summertime), perfect for the celebrations for the Armed Forces Day.
We heard 'Waltzing Matilda' being played and saw this gentleman strumming his guitar thoroug an amp in a shady spot. I was very brave and asked if he would mind me taking a photo.
He was delighted and explained that he had been due to be photographed at the parade in the morning but had arrived 30 minutes late because he had had trouble attaching his medals to his jacket.
I learnt that his name is Mr Settle C.M.B.H.I (Craft Master British Horological Institute) and he is 88.
In 1941 he was British Army boxing champion and he has 18 medals for cycling - he still regularly cycles and surfs in his home town of Newquay!
He asked if I would send him a copy of this photo - it will be a pleasure to do that for a true gentleman
