Smeaton's tower

Today we went to Plymouth Hoe.

The lighthouse was originally built on the Eddystone reef in 1759 but was taken down in the early 1880s when there were fears that the rock it was standing on was not supporting it.

Around two thirds of the lighthouse was moved stone by stone to the Hoe.

Now standing at 72 foot high, Smeaton?s Tower is open to the public and offers fantastic views of Plymouth Sound.
