Keys

Today, 29 June is St Peter's Day, I discover. I got the clue when I saw great flocks of children from St Peter's Primary School pouring in to St Peter's Church!

So I got this blip as being pretty right for the day. St Peter's Keys above St Peter's Church gate.

I was reminded of going into St Peter's Basilica in Rome. Round the inside of the cupola in letters six feet high there is this imperious declaration of authority, written in Latin that even my rusty version could recognise. "Tu es Petrus et super hanc petram aedificabo ecclesiam mean et tibi dabo claves regni caelorum"

("You are 'Rock' and on this rock I will build my Church, to you I will give the keys of the kingdom of heaven." )

Personally, I think we've all got far too many keys - and I would embrace a world with the keys thrown away!!!!! So there, St Peter!
