Meet Dave

Dave is one of the regular walkers in Chagrin River Park. Several years ago, Bob and I were walking in the park, and we ran into Dave and introduced ourselves. Somehow in the course of the conversation that followed, Bob and Dave discovered that they both grew up in Central Pennsylvania. Although they didn't go to the same high school, both were pole vaulters, and then Bob realized why Dave's name seemed familiar. Over 50 years ago, they had each represented their high school in the pole vault at the same district track meet, and Dave had won. As Bob related what he remembered, Dave stood there in amazement, and to this day, he shares this story with other park walkers, marveling that Bob remembers the events of that track meet so clearly. As strange as it seems, they have lived and raised families in the same community for almost 50 years, their kids went to the same high school, but until that day in the park, they had never run into each other since that long ago high school track meet.
