In Brief, for once...

Dashed Hopes

Well, Japan fought bravely, quite literally to the last minute of their World Cup, but in the end it was not to be.

The boys in blue didn't win the tournament, but they did achieve what a lot of other national squads did not this year. They inspired a nation, by taking their sport to a new level. Where other countries lambast their erstwhile heroes as if they hadn't just gone out and given their all for their country, the Japan team can pat themselves on the back for a job well done. Kawashima deserves a medal, and the rest of the world may think of something other than cars when they hear the name Honda.

They also gave me a reason to get excited about the World Cup for the first time in a few years. Hopefully those that influence the future of football in Scotland were watching and get it together so I can support my own country next time.

And we can still rise now....and be the nation again....?
Call me an optimist.
