They left Armstrong standing on the pavement in front of the church, his face set in an unnatural expression as if he didn't trust himself to react in any way.

Hewson and the Major followed the two "big lads" round the corner to where their anonymous-looking van was parked.

Getting in the back, while the two younger men took the front seats, the major asked Hewson how long it would take to get to the hospital.

"Shouldn't be more than five minutes, I would say," replied Hewson.

At this, the Major leaned forward and said to the driver, "get us there in three."
