Return of the Hardgate Well

The Hardate Well is back ... after a fashion ... previously a stone arch marked its location on the Hardgate, Aberdeen ... then construction of a new hotel started and the arch was dismantled and stored. Now that the hotel is nearing completion, this new look well has appeared, located over the original site of the well discovered during construction.

The plaque which was near the well has been re-installed on the wall of the hotel and it reads :

This spring figured in the Battle of Justice Mills fought on 13th September 1644 between the Royalist forces under the Marquis of Montrose and the citizens of Aberdeen

I kind of liked the old arch better than this, but am pleased that at least something has been left to mark the site of the well.

P.S. I didn't notice the plastic bottletop lower right when taking the photo :-)
