Bluestone House, Timaru
This lovely old building built from bluestone is now used as a Literacy School attached to our Aoraki Polytechnic. Originally was the head masters residence to the adjacent Main School (the school has now been demolished) - the school that my husband attended in his youth. Possibly build in the 1880's, I have tried to research the exact date but with no luck yet.
Bluestone is a timeless 100% natural stone. From the eruptions of Mt Horrible to the west of Timaru, lava rivers flowed & cooled into long bluffs & ridges of blue/grey basalt rock, & run through with veins & features not found anywhere else in New Zealand. Each rock is unique & creates a product that is unaffected by weather, very low in maintenance & will last for generations. There are a number of bridges also made from this throughout the district.
I had to sneek away from work earlier than usual to feed the cattle, Doug is away in ChCh at a meeting.
I loved the low afternoon sun on the building, it gave stunning light.
Very tired now, but work finished for the week.
