Thistle Down

By Ethel

I Was A Woman

It was an old tree,
That had fell by the way..
Some body had cut it,
And left it to lay.

But...I was a woman,
It was heavy for me.
I looked a long time,
Then I tackled the tree.

I cut it and brought it,
I tackled the tree.
I moved it all home,
So no one could see.

Little by little,
The old tree was gone.
By diligence and persistence,
And in working I had won.

Though I was a woman,
The urging in me.
Had rewarded all my efforts,
And had conquered the tree.
