Thistle Down

By Ethel

Purse

My purse lays on the table,
It is so used and old.
It never had much money,
And it never did hold gold.

I spent my money to buy it,
With none to go inside.
And every penny I put within,
It always seemed to hide.

It has no shape to carry,
And it is not so fat.
I can not stand it by the chair,
Because it is too flat.

I take it to the grocery store,
With the little I have got.
I try to be so careful,
Only buying what I ought.

It matches every dress I have,
And it's really very funny.
That people do not know at all,
That I haven't any money.
