CSA Haul

Today was my first CSA pick-up and here's the haul in all it's green, locally grown, seasonal, organic glory!

I gave been toying with joining a CSA for awhile. Finally I decided to give it a try when I learned that Suzie's Organic Farmdelivered to the Leucadia farmer's market and that you could sign up for an every other week schedule.

This weeks box included: green peppers, basil, thyme, green onions, a basket of tomatoes, turnips, fennel, cucumbers, a variety of summer squash, two baby melons, and lettuce.

I already used some of the basil to make home made bruchetta which turned out really well and I'm planning on trying to make basil pesto tomorrow night with the rest of it.

I like how there are veggies included in each box that I wouldn't normally buy at the store. It becomes a fun challenge to find a good receipe to use the item. For instance, turnips. I can't remember if I've actually ever eaten a turnip much less bought one! And I have no clue what to do with them ... I welcome any good vegetarian recipe suggestions!
