Leaving Syracuse

We felt sad to be leaving after such a short stay. This house has been femiliar to me for 40 years; just the tree in front and roof have changed over the years. John explained his roofing method many years ago, the second roof goes over the first one with longer nails, then the third roof goes on with even longer nails. When that one wears out it is stripped off and started again.

On my first visit I was fascinated by the big basement (we still don't have those in the UK) state-of-the-art kitchen (at the time) with separate fitted hob and oven, wall units, worktops and huge fridge. No one I knew had anything so modern. Over the years we have caught up so the kitchen now seems cosy and familiar - it's the same kitchen but I have changed.

Having lived here for 2 months in 1970 it always feels like coming to my 'second home' and it's a wrench leaving. Thank you, John, Doris & Sarah for making us so welcome.
