Casting Nasturtiums
A malapropism commonly used in place of aspersions. I've tried and failed to find its origin on the interweb. Perhaps one of you has the answer??
Anyhow, I gave a short lesson in the edible flower of this fab plant, which grows in between carrots, tomatoes and onions in our vegetable garden. Our younger Miss Green listened carefully to my explanation that these are special flowers, one of only a few that can be eaten.
She wasn't that impressed with the taste of them, but I was pleasantly surprised at the strength of the flavour in these yellow and orange petals. They'll definitely be putting in an appearance in the plot again next year and in a salad or two - particularly as they'll self seed all over the place.
