On This Day

Today started with a drunken stroll through the village I grew up in. I was quite taken by the midnight moon - so here it is in all its glory in the inky sky.

And words wise today, slightly hungover, I came accross a little card blu tacked to the side of my childhood bed. Sometimes things are there so long they become part of the furniture and you don't notice them. But today this jumped out at me. It's titled On This Day and I seem to remember putting it on my bed post as a reminder for every new day. I love the words and the good intentions and I wanted to share them. So here they are:

ON THIS DAY
Mend a quarrel. Search out a forgotten friend. Dismiss suspicion and replace it with trust. Write a love letter. Share some treasure. Give a soft answer. Encourage youth. Manifest your loyalty in a word or deed.

Keep a promise. Find the time. Forgo a grudge. Forgive an enemy. Listen. Apologise if you were wrong. Try to understand. Flout envy. Examine your demands on others. Think first of someone else. Appreciate, be kind, be gentle. Laugh a little more.

Deserve confidence. Take up arms against malice. Decry complacency. Express your gratitude. Worship your God. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty and the wonder of the earth.

Speak your love. Speak it still again. Speak it still once again.
