last 16 in a national competition

Joe arrived back from DofE gold yesterday at 2ish. He hadn't had much sleep: the choice of camping place was marsh or slope, he had walked hard,carrying a heavy rucksack and he had eaten less than usual, so apparently not the best prep for a senior national fencing competition.
So today, he fought his way to the last 16, knocked out eventually by the last hit of a bout, which he thinks might have hit the floor (not allowed). after a few minutes being cross about that, he remembered to be happy about getting to the last 16 :)
