Going Up
While C was at a Bellingham Sings all-day retreat, I went to the International Society of Arborists Pacific Northwest Chapter Tree-Climbing Competition -- try saying that quickly! The contest was held in Elizabeth Park, not far from downtown Bellingham.
According to the report in The Bellingham Herald, there were fifteen contestants from Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia. Each one competed in five different events testing skills used in their work, such as climbing, limb walking, and climber rescue. Points were awarded for time and accuracy. The top three scorers then competed in a more challenging task. For this event, the second and third competitors were sequestered until it was their turn, to prevent them from having an unfair advantage.
After C came back from her retreat, we went to the Temple Bar and sat outside on the sidewalk sharing two glasses of rose -- one Spanish and one French. They were both good. We felt as if we were in France again.
