Holidays at last!

Our holiday properly starts today, and we arrived in France first thing to glorious sunshine. We headed down the coast, avoiding the autoroutes while I got a feeling for driving on the wrong side of the road, negotiating roundabouts the wrong way etc. It's surprisingly easy to adapt so we got through unscathed!

The coast was quite misty so we abandoned the idea of going to a bird sanctuary and headed inland. My boyfriend is a bit of a history buff so he wanted to see the battle fields at Agincourt. I wasn't overly keen but was very pleasantly surprised. Of course after all these years the battlefields are.. well, just fields really, and very pretty fields at that. So we had a lovely day driving through rural France, past golden blankets of wheat, along roads lined with trees and wild flowers (complete with huge numbers of butterflies).

Our plan had initially been to get south of Paris today, but with Holland getting through to the final of the World Cup my boyfriend decided it might be nice to head over to Amsterdam to visit his Dutch friends and watch the football with them there. We texted last night to see if they'd be around and they said they were in Normandy! So we're meeting them here instead, and staying for a couple of days. A happy surprise for the start of our trip :)
