Life.turns Jen
Jen and I have been away for the weekend doing part of the C2C (Coast to Coast) bike ride from Cumbria, through Northumbria to Durham. We took the bikes on the train to Langwathby and then tackled the most difficult and mountainous stage over Hartside and Gilligarry to our first night stay at Nenthead. It was tough! The climb up Hartside seemed to go on forever and then when we reached Gilligarry mid afternoon the incline out of the village was very steep and we had to push the bikes most of the way! I think we went to bed at 8.30! The second day we continued upwards to Allenheads, had a cuppa in a pub in Rookhope and then decide to take the alternative off road route up a very rough, steep track to the top of the hill. It was a good choice (the alternative was to drop down into the valley to Stanhope and then climb right back up on a busier road) as once we reached the top of the hill there was an old railway track across the top of the moor with fantastic views. We then reached the Waskerley Trail and followed that all the way to Bee Cottage Farm near Consett for our second night, very comfortable stay. Today (I'm backblipping here!) we had a very easy ride through Consett and Rowlands Gill to Newcastle along the Waskerley Trail and then the Derwent Path, brilliant!
The life.turns blip is Jen almost at the top of Hartside, in front of one of the C2C markers.
