Eternal vigilance

A member of the King's Guard (Kongens Garde) on duty at Akershus Castle in Oslo. His back was towards me but he turned as I took this photo - no doubt due to that military sixth sense that tells a soldier when strange eyes are on him. The old-style parade uniform and the way he's silhouetted against the sky almost make it look like he's from a bygone era, but the modern weapon and the CCTV camera give it a contemporary touch - and also make me wonder, who's really on guard duty here?
