Thistle Down

By Ethel

My Sunday Best

In my Sunday best,
I went to church.
Besides religion,
I was trying to search.

For a beau to have,
One for my own.
Not one that was handed,
Out for a loan.

On the bench ahead,
A young man sat.
He wouldn't look this way,
And he wouldn't look that.

But in my blue dress,
I went down the aisle.
From the corner of his eye,
I caught his smile.

I knew right them,
I had what I sought.
And my purpose in coming,
Had not been for naught.
