Broccoli bolting for the exit
One of the casualties of going on a 3 week holiday has been the Broccoli. We planted a couple of rows but only 3 actually started to grow.
When we went it was looking promising that we, (well me mainly as kids and Mrs P aren't huge fans of the stuff), might have some to eat later in the year -aiming for xmas, but came back to find it had bolted.
Never mind. Have decided to leave it for a couple of weeks, as its attracting white butterflies so I'm going to try and get a snap at the weekend when the sun is out.
Anyone got suggestions of what to plant out now? I'm going to spend tonight researching as haven't a clue what to plant so late in the summer. With the onions and garlic now pulled and drying nicely, the plot is empty apart from these and the weeds!
Also decided today that the raised bed made out of recycled fencing is going to get a makeover.
Instead of one long plot I'm going to dig out the couple of tons of soil, dismantle the existing plot and build several smaller boxes with a path in the middle. If i can convince Mrs P i might even dig up some more of the grass next to the greenhouse for more raised beds ;)
Will take months of pontificating what to do and with the kids away this weekend i think i might just sit in the garden and chillax with some wine and the camera!
