Ardnamurchan at last

The big one - round Ardnamurchan - the most westerly point in the UK as you(se) all know! That's the lighthouse seen from Eigg - it's a big thing and that's ten miles of water. So, a bit exposed, and the bliddy met forecast was south westerly 4 or 5 (I kept the "occasionally 6" quiet from Mr N). So, a bit stiff for a novice duo in a wee boat, but it was fine! We sailed on a tack as close to the wind as we could (we never got away till after nine as we were moored against the sea wall in the drying part of the harbour and low tide was about 6am).
Anyway, we motored the section round the point rather than tack away and then sailed to Tobermory with the wind at our backs. As we neared Tobermory we saw dozens of sailing boats coming towards us. It was West Highland sailing week and today was the regatta - 160 yachts heading in as well as us! Gagh. So, no pontoon - on to the anchor instead. A great evening - fine food and drink, much blethering and even a band who sang Deacon Blue's "Dignity" without a trace of irony. And you know, it sounded really good. That was before the bassist got so off his face that he fell out with the rest of the band, declaring them to be "bloody poofs". Home at midnight on the water taxi crewed by a couple of local youths. Fantastic day!
