Smash Palace

Today I flew north to Auckland (1hr 20) then drove 4 hours south to Mt Ruapehu where I am for the next 2 - 3 days for work.

The weather was lousy; rain, hail snow, sun - in any 15 minute period!

This photo was taken at a car wreckers just north of Ohakune, which is where the Turoa ski area is. The yard was the location for a film in 1982, Smash Palace, that has become one of the iconic Kiwi films.

I have never stopped before, so thanks to Blip, I took time to do so, and got a heap of great photos ;-)
