NZ Sheldrake Duck or Paradise Duck

A sure sign of Spring!

Found these little baby ducklings with Mum and Dad in the very heart of Christchurch City enjoying the sun beside the Avon River.
There are seven little ducklings, one alot more adventurous than the others. The mother was very relaxed and wandered a little way leaving the ducklings in a huddle. They shuffled round as the sun moved and the shadows of the day grew longer.  Dad appeared on the spot and they all dispersed for a short while before forming groups of two or three. Mum went for a quick dip and wouldn't let any other ducks nearby.

A small group of people gathered for photos which didn't seem to fazed either of the parents.  In fact Dad quite happily walked beside me.

Another day out with my Mum and we were both quite pleased and most amazed to see this little family.
