Shiver me timbers
Despite going out with Pesky Princess and #1 Son after work today, not really much to blip; either that or I was just too tired and walking about with blinkers on.
Took another trip to the graveyard before it shut and got a couple of potential shots noted in the blip bank for later in the year. Don't normally frequent places of the dead, but as the car park is next to it i thought we would take a wander and see what we could see.
Kids were getting right into reading the gravestones from 1777 etc and asking questions about some of the wording/shapes etc. Quite interesting.
Almost stepped on some people who were lying in the long grass sleeping. Wasn't sure if they were homeless or junkies, and as i had kids in toe i thought I'd better leave them alone. If i was on my own i probably would have taken a couple of shots as would have made a good blip.
So here's my offering for today. I found it quite interesting, especially as the kids thought it was a pirates grave!
Apparently sculls and crossbones were common in Scotland as reminders of the mortality of man. Hourglasses denoted time passing: a vertical hourglass for a person had lived a full life and a horizontal one for a person whose life had been cut short.
