REMEMBRANCE OF THINGS PAST

This is the axel from an old mill. It is about three feet high (91.44 cm) and engineers who know these things say it would have generated about 2.4 horse power.

We took over an old mill which was used first for making chestnut flour and then for making olive oil. All of the machinery was there and it was a shame to remove it. It was, however, given to a mill museum not far away and is awaiting reconstruction for all to see.
They didn't want this bit so here it sits next to a bay hedge and the old mill stream, a reminder of what used to be.
