Walmer Castle
Took this shot just outside the walls as you can see - loads of lovely gardens, edged with this lavender.
This was our first port of call on holiday - literally. This was one of the old Cinque Ports (now the sea's nowhere near it of course). We got to head through Dover to reach it, which I've never seen before. It was way more impressive (and simultaneously run-down) than I'd imagined.
So yes, the castle itself was very interesting. There were lots of touristy roped off historical rooms, including a room where the Queen mother herself used to stay. They had genuine furnishings though, hardly any props! There was a very nice garden as I said, including a full greenhouse system with loads of exotic plants. We also made an amusing discovery - an absolutely ancient pull-chain toilet; probably one of the last in the country!
