Forts in France
On another of our afternoon trips, we headed up to a nearby fort which, when you get up and around it, has the most spectacular view down to Albertville and across to Mont Blanc/Chamonix/Megeve way.
On our way up, we had a picnic in the shade. Another scorcher today. We listened to some french radio (nrg!!) and enjoyed the cheesy europop as we drove. Then when we arrived at the fort, the OAPs in the area were having a dancing lunch there, with a man playing french accordion music keeping them entertained. The atmosphere was so relaxed and happy, it was a real pleasure to share it. We didn't muscle in on their lunch, though.. we walked past and around the fort, learning about how it was built to first keep the french out of Savoy (before Savoy became part of France), then how it was used by La Resistance in WWII. Lots of underground bunkers and tunnels as well as the views. A fun afternoon :)
