My turn
My turn to earn the t-shirt today. I was doing the 'courte distance' race. 1.1K swim. 30K bike. 8K run. But 16K of the bike was uphill and the run was at 2000m altitude. Having done it before, I kind of knew what to expect, but this year it was much bigger and louder. 1200 of us at the start. Highway to Hell was blaring out the loudspeakers as I bobbed in the water, waiting for the gun to go off. Loud helicopter overhead as we swum. I got a couple of knocks in the face from eager swimmers, one of which I thought had drawn blood in my mouth, but thankfully not, it was just sore! Out onto the bike and I held my own all the way along the bottom bit, to the Alpe. Then literally hundreds of people passed me going up the hill. That was ok, cos today wasn't about the time. It was about doing it and having a great time and being thankful that I was there. When I got to the top, HB kept popping up on the course and cheering me on. Big smile on his face and sometimes with fellow supporters shouting my name in encouragement!! I ran strong (for me!) and finished just as the juice started to run out. Thank you everyone who cheered me on, you don't know how much strength and energy you gave me. Yee-bloomin-hah for the experience!
