Allez Allez!

We have been taking a long slow trip back from Alpe D'huez to the Chunnel. First we headed to Gerardmer. We arrived late, stayed for the first time in a french 'aire' - a strangely scary experience which I'm sure I'll feel more comfortable about next time! We enjoyed the tastiest pain au raisins ever (and that's some accolade, we've had a few!) with a wonderful mountain lake view, then drove on to a nondescript place near the french/belgian border. En route, we saw Chateau de Montmedy, an incredible medievale citadele which was a favoured haven for Louis XIV. Who knew!? Miles from anywhere.
