Not very fit but awfully determined
11,500 feet above sea-level - I've never been to this height before and it was a steep learning curve!
1) At this height when the sun shines you will burn at an alarming speed. Always wear strong sunblock and a hat.
2) The air is slightly thinner and everything has to be done at a slower pace.
3) When the sun shines you don't need many clothes at all - shorts and a t-shirt were fine today.
4) At 41 years old and overweight I'm not as fit as I was once. At a younger age you can just about get away with it, but as you age, you need to help your body out a bit!
5) Nothing can prepare you for the first sight of these giants and to be among them is a great privilege.
6) Avalanches occur at an alarming rate on hot summer days and we saw well over twenty today. Mostly small but scarey never the less.
So anyway, here we are below Jungfrau at 11,500 feet above sea-level and enjoying very hot weather indeed. It was an early start and the way to the summit goes up the narrow dip between the high point and the lower top to the left. Not technically difficult at all, just a slow and steady climb with minimal rope work at one steeper section. Arriving at the summit we were surprised at how many people there were, from all parts of the globe but mainly Europe of course.
A rest day tomorrow I think........
