Toeday I took this

This is the toe of the philosopher and historian David Hulme's statue at the top of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. One of the cities famous sons, it is said to be lucky for philosophy students to rub his toe before exams and it has been replaced several times. I like the idea of there being a stockpile of David Hulme toes somewhere. He was more famous as a historian and his most famous work was strangely 'A History of England' which was a standard work in English history well into the nineteenth century. He was said to have influenced many of the more famous future philosophers and he was also apparently a good craic and liked to have a bottle of red wine every day in the bars of old Edina where he would hone his debating skills with the locals. look him up.Incidentally this picture was taken after an ill advised trip to town with Suzo, hot busy and full of feckin' eejits. I have no patience with the luvvie brigade must be getting old.
