Playscape elephant

Went into town today to get a birthday present and decided to get a picture of this lovely chap whilst I was there. Fortunately today noone was sitting on it!

It stands on something which looks like tarmac, but is some sort of child friendly substance which is very spongy to walk on.

There is a plaque stating that it was presented to the town in 1989. I was once told that there was a bigger one, which was vandalised. I am not sure if the plaque refers to the original elephant or it's replacement.
