Little Sprout

Pub Quiz last night and again as per last week fourteen questions that we got wrong for you to ponder, however this week three of them we got half right and that was enough for us to scrape into the prize money in third place. However there was another two that we also got right, but then wrote in the wrong boxes on the answer sheet and that would have been enough for us to win! Recriminations went on long into the night - we also had the benefit of an extra brain on the team this week, Clare's sister Sally - hopefully she'll be back sometime if the post quiz squabbles didn't scare her off.

So here's the offending fourteen questions, see whether you could have improved our score:

1. A panther is a variety of which cat?
2. A hit for Bryan Hyland in August 1960, which song was a UK No 1 single for Bombalurina in August 1990?
3. The Wildcats Rugby League club are based in which Yorkshire city?
4. Which Texas city was the destination in the original title of the song Midnight Train to Georgia?
5. Spirits in public houses may be sold in multiples of how many millilitres?
6. Which two rivers separate the island of Manhattan from the rest of New York?
7. Which number French Republic lasted from 1870 until the German occupation in 1940?
8. Which sea is a shallow arm of the Pacific between Korea and NE China?
9. Who portrayed Sherlock Holmes in the 2010 TV adaptation of Conan Doyle's detective?
10. The name of which vegetable is derived from Italian meaning literally a "little sprout"?
11. Which British golf course has holes named Ginger Beer and Corner of the Dyke?
12. When Sachin Tendulkar set new mark for Test match appearances, whose record of 168 did he beat?
13. What name is given to the wooden plug forming a flue in the end of a pipe, as the mouthpiece of a recorder or end-blown flute?
14. Who take the title roles in the TV comedy Roger and Val Have Just Got In?

I've posted the answers in the comments.

And now the plug for Andrew (who's good enough to email me the above so's I don't have to type them out:

The quiz is well & enjoyably run by Andrew and as his website says "If you're in London, Essex, Herts, Beds or Bucks - Want to hold a quiz event but can't find a quiz master? - Want a fun evening?" Then give him a call.
